This series is the first of my works addressing a house fire that happened in my home in which my family lost a large portion of our memories and our worldy goods. I used raw and unstretched canvas for this as I wanted it to be hanging loosely off the wall of the exhibition space.
I added acrylic paint to water and added thin watery layers to the piece to build up colour and values. The raw canvas worked really well in this as the watered down paint spread well through the fabric and made unexpected, organic patters and forms which worked well with my more intentional marks. I also added some sewing to the piece to add some narrative about the lost memories.
